Bafang (Suzhou Bafang Electric Motor Science-Technology) is a large Chinese maker of e-bike mid-drive and hub motors, widely used on direct-to-consumer and conversion e-bikes. Its BBS mid-drive kits are a common aftermarket choice.
Bafang systems commonly run at 36 V or 48 V nominal and frequently use the Hailong down-tube battery format or an integrated in-frame pack. Because Bafang supplies both OEMs and the aftermarket, battery voltage and the physical mount (Hailong rail, Reention Dorado, or a brand-specific tray) must both be confirmed before buying a replacement.
Published drive units include BBS02 (Mid-drive rated 80 Nm); BBSHD (Mid-drive rated 120 Nm); M400 (M420) (Mid-drive rated 80 Nm); M500 (Mid-drive rated 95 Nm); G310 (rear hub) (Rear-hub rated 40 Nm).
