Bosch eBike Systems, a division of Robert Bosch GmbH, launched its first e-bike drive in 2011 and is the dominant mid-drive supplier on European e-bikes. Its current platform is the Smart System (announced 2021); the previous generation is eBike System 2.
Robert Bosch GmbH, commonly known as Bosch, is a German multinational engineering and technology company headquartered in Gerlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Bosch batteries are the PowerTube (in-frame) and PowerPack (external) families at 36 V nominal, in 400, 500, 625, 750 and 800 Wh capacities. The Smart System (BES3) and eBike System 2 (BES2) generations do not interchange: a Smart System battery will not run a BES2 bike and vice versa, even where two packs look physically identical.
Published drive units include Performance Line CX (Mid-drive rated 85 Nm); Performance Line (Mid-drive rated 75 Nm); Performance Line Speed (Mid-drive rated 85 Nm); Active Line Plus (Mid-drive rated 50 Nm); Performance Line CX Race (Mid-drive rated 85 Nm).
